Dry Hot Weather…...Consider Accuration Liquid 32-10
The weather in Bosque County has turned hot and dry. Cattlemen should pay close attention to grass quality as we navigate through July and August. Rumen microbes will not function efficiently as grass crude protein levels drop below 8%. Milk production will drop off and cows can start to lose body condition due to poor quality forage. This is a critical time for brood cows—maintaining body condition, nursing a calf and growing a new calf inside the uterus. Many beef producers feel that providing supplement to cows during the summer months is more important than any other time during the year. Accuration Liquid 32-10 is ideal for this critical time. Consider filling up lick tanks during July.

What Will it Cost to Wean Calves?
Dry conditions could lead to early weaning of calves this summer. Question: Can I wean, keep my calves healthy, add valuable weight, and make money at the same time? We also have the opportunity to sell calves this fall through several value-added VAC 45 sales. These sales require weaning your calves, giving the correct vaccinations and adding valuable weight. Clifton Feed has the proven nutrition program to get this done!
We recommend using Accuration Starter for 15-21 days and then Cattle Limiter and your grass for the remainder of the growing period. The following table illustrates two sets of records that show estimated calf performance.
Begin-End Calf Weight (lbs.) | 247-403 | 400-508 |
Calf Gain (lbs.) | 156 | 108 |
Days | 69 | 45 |
Average Daily Gain (lbs.) | 2.35 | 2.40 |
Feed Conversion (lbs.) | 4.00 | 4.30 |
Cost/lb. of Gain $ | .84 |
