Do’s & Don’ts to Remember at a Model Audition
On your journey to becoming a successful model, you’ll have to master the audition. Casting agencies use this time to get an idea of what you will be like on the job and how you can make the project a success. Use these tips to make sure you leave a good impression.
Do:
Arrive on time.
Professionalism is everything, and it starts with showing up on time. If the casting agency is holding auditions for a specific time frame, this doesn’t mean that you should arrive any time between the start and end. If you want to be seen, get there when they first open the doors.
Bring a relevant portfolio.
You might be exactly what the casting agency is looking for, but if you don’t bring any identification, they won’t remember you. Show up with your portfolio, business card, or headshot that lists your experience, special skills, and contact details. Ideally, the images you leave should also relate to the project at hand.
Don’t:
Dress inappropriately.
It’s an unwritten rule that models are expected to come to castings in a specific type of attire. To get an idea of how you would look for the project, agencies prefer a more dressed down look. Unless you are specifically asked to wear something different, choose a plain black sleeveless top, stretchy black fitted jeans or leggings, and black closed-toed heels.
Skip the brief.
Before attending a model casting, be clear about what the project is and what the agency is looking for. If the project calls for skills that you don’t possess or will take place during a time that you are not available, do not apply. If you meet the requisites, use the information given to research similar campaigns the company has done in the past to see what kind of looks they prefer.
