YBN Cordae and Kenny Stills Among Those Arrested at Breonna Taylor Protest in Louisville
#FreeYBNCordae was trending on Twitter after it was reported that the rapper had been arrested at a Breonna Taylor protest in Louisville, Kentucky. Cordae joined a march in the city on Tuesday that intended to put pressure on local authorities to arrest and charge all officers involved in the death of Breonna Taylor. Houston Texans star Kenny Stills was also among those arrested at the protest, TMZ reports.
Cordae and Stills were two of the 87 people arrested outside of Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron's house, where peaceful protesters gathered. "Due to their refusal to leave the property and their attempts to influence the decision of the Attorney General with their actions, each person was charged with Intimidating a Participant in a Legal Process (Class D felony), Disorderly Conduct 2nd Degree (Class B misdemeanor), and Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree," the Louisville Metro Police revealed in a statement, per CBS News.
Other notable protesters that were arrested include Trae Tha Truth, Yandy Smith, and Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams.
In response to the protest, Cameron said he and his team will "continue with a thorough and fair investigation" into the death of Breonna Taylor, but the protest "will not alter our pursuit of the truth." He went on to accuse the protesters of attempting to "escalate" the situation. "Justice is not achieved by trespassing on private property," he added, "and it's not achieved through escalation."
Tennis star Naomi Osaka, who is in a relationship with Cordae, chimed in on the arrests at the protest via Twitter. "They're really arresting people for protesting, that's crazy," she wrote before reposting a tweet calling for Cordae's release.
