Most homeowners interact with their kitchen and bathroom faucets daily, but you likely don’t pay them much attention unless something goes wrong. If you notice any of the following issues with your kitchen or bathroom fixtures, it may be time to replace your current faucet with a new model.

How to Tell When It’s Time to Upgrade Your Faucet

1. Corrosion

Over time, the metal in your faucet may corrode due to a chemical reaction with water and oxygen. This may cause visible rust to form along the metal and/or the interior components. Rust can easily break apart and allow faucets to leak, or the material may collect along the inside of your faucets and pipes to block water.

2. Squeaky Handles

If the handles of your faucet squeak whenever you turn them, that indicates that metal components are rubbing directly together and creating friction. This often occurs when the threads that separate these parts become worn due to age. It’s generally easier and more cost effective to replace the entire faucet than it is to repair these parts.

3. Leaks

Worn threads inside the faucet can also create enough space for water to seep out the sides or bottom of the setup. This doesn’t just waste water, but it can also lead to mold and corrosion over time. Replace the faucet with a new model that has plastic threads that are less prone to wear.

4. Low Water Pressure

If you notice low water pressure from your faucet, the aerator where the water comes out may be clogged or damaged. You may try cleaning it, and ensure the water pressure issue only affects one sink and not the entire house. However, if the problem persists with just one faucet, a new model can quickly solve it.
