In an effort to protect prisoner populations from the COVID-19 crisis, the Connecticut Department of Correction instituted strict restrictions and new policies across the state. Many of these temporary measures have been relaxed, the ongoing crisis still affects inmates, families, and people waiting for a bail bond. Below are a few measures the state is taking to control the spread of the virus.

In-Person Visit Restrictions

In-person social visits resumed back in October, but social distancing guidelines are strictly enforced. According to Department of Correction regulations, all visits are strictly no-contact and should include no more than two people at a time. To maintain social distancing and give staff a chance to disinfect the area, all visits must be scheduled in advance.

Video Visitation

Families who are unable to schedule an in-person visit or want to protect themselves can schedule video calls with their incarcerated loved ones. These remote visits are provided free of charge and can be arranged by calling the correctional facility where your loved one is being held.

Vaccines for Inmates in Connecticut

Because inmates live in close quarters, they're at a higher risk of contracting the virus from one another. To ensure this population is protected, Connecticut inmates will be included in the second group of people to receive the vaccine, along with those living in nursing homes and other communal settings. Depending on the speed of the vaccine rollout, this process will likely begin within a couple of months.
