Attorney Judith Hoechst experienced infertility struggles similar to those of the clients she is privileged to represent. With her law office in the Denver metro area, Judith has represented clients in Assisted Reproductive Technology law and the complex issues related to family formation since 2010. Caring for babies, children and their parents has been the focus of Judith’s professional career. Prior to and while attending law school, Judith worked as a pediatric intensive care nurse and a Level III-IV neonatal intensive care nurse at two children’s hospitals, and as a pediatric oncology nurse at the Cleveland Clinic. While maintaining a busy law practice, she continued to work on weekends in a Level IV NICU for a number of years. Judith changed the focus of her law practice from medical negligence and massive tort litigation to Assisted Reproduction law in 2010. With personal insight into the formidable issues of loss and emotional pain those struggling with fertility and family formation are facing, she feels passionate about representing her clients as well as advocating for ART legislation in Colorado.
Judith has been admitted by examination to the State Bars of Ohio, New Mexico and Colorado. She is a member of the ABA’s Family Law Section and the ART Committee, she is the Continuing Legal Education Liaison between the Family Law Section and the ART Committee, she is a Region V Family Law Section Council Member, and she is a member of the Family Law Section’s Nominating Committee. She is a member of both the ART Committee’s Legislative Sub-Committee and the Judicial Sub-Committee. She is a proud member of the Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys. She is Vice Chair of ASRM’s Legal Professional Group and she is a member of RESOLVE, Path2Parenthood, Men Having Babies, SEEDS, the Colorado Bar Association, the Colorado Women's Bar Association, and she is a board member of Colorado Fertility Advocates. She actively worked with RESOLVE, Colorado Fertility Advocates, her colleagues and Colorado state representatives on ART legislation and advocacy in Colorado in 2019-2020. House Bill 20-1158 The Building Families Act was signed into law by Governor Polis in April 2020 requiring large and small market insurers to cover fertility treatment, including IVF, in Colorado. Judith was asked to revise the language of House Bill 20-1014 regarding unconsented use of donor gametes in fertility treatment which was signed into law by the Governor in 2020. A surrogacy bill she co-drafted was tabled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and it will be re-introduced in the next legislative session in 2021.
