The trick shot is a time-honored sign of pool mastery, giving you the ability to make seemingly impossible shots. While many of the most impressive feats take years of dedicated practice, there are some trick shots even relative beginners can learn. The next time you’re at the pool hall, give the trick shots below a try.
What Are Some Pool Trick Shots for Beginners?
1. The 4-in-1
The 4-in-1 may be one of the easiest trick shots to learn, but that doesn’t make it any less impressive. When performed correctly, this trick lets you sink four balls in different pockets with just one shot. All you need to do to pull this off is arrange the balls in a straight line, parallel to one of the corner pockets.
Shoot the cue into the middle of the four-ball line, and the two center balls should barrel into the corner pocket, while the two on the outside go into the holes closest to them. Once you’ve mastered the 4-in-1, you can add another ball to the arrangement and put away five at once.
2. The 3 & 3
This is a more complex variation of the 4-in-1, and requires a bit more skill. In this trick, you’ll line up two balls to go into both corner pockets at one side of the table, while the cue makes two banks before sinking a ball on the other side of the table. Once you’ve mastered this shot, you’ll have the skills to work on more challenging tricks.
3. The 8-Ball Gag Shot
This is a pool hall classic, combining a bit of skill with a clever twist. Just put two balls touching one another right against the rail, then balance the 8-ball on top. After betting that you can hit the 8 without jumping or touching the balls underneath, hit the cue very slowly. Before it gets to the rail, simply slap the table hard enough to make the ball tower collapse, hopefully earning you some laughs.
