1. Watch the Charge Level

Regularly using all of your battery's juice will reduce its ability to hold power, shortening your rides and the battery’s life span. On the other hand, staying at 100% capacity while hooked up to the charger will stress the battery’s cells, degrading its condition. Keep your battery charged at roughly 85–90% as much as possible to maximize its efficiency and life.

2. Maintain the Terminals

The battery terminals, also known as contacts, are essential to the creation and disbursement of power for your electric bicycle. When they get wet or dirty, such as by riding in the rain or through mud, corrosion forms, which interferes with the connection. 

Inspect your terminals after each ride, and use a dry cloth to wipe away dust and dirt. If corrosion is present, you can use battery contact cleaner, apply a small amount to the terminals, and use a clean rag to wipe corrosion away. Ensure the terminals are dry before turning on or charging the bike.

3. Store It Carefully

Lithium batteries hold charges longer when stored in cool or room temperature conditions. If you’re able, keep your bike in an air-conditioned garage or room in your home instead of outside. If that’s not an option, try to keep it in the shade during the summer, and slowly warm the bike to room temperature before charging the battery in winter. 

For long-term storage, use a climate-controlled facility, and keep the battery roughly 50% charged, checking it every month or so. If it gets below 40% while in storage, give it a quick booster charge to prevent it from being depleted.
