Dancing provides a fun and exciting way for children to socialize with their peers and release some energy. Luckily, enrolling them in a dance class also gives them a rewarding way to express their creativity and develop physically, emotionally, socially, and cognitively. However, with all of the styles available, it can be difficult to determine what class your child would like best. Here is a guide to finding a style of dance for your child

4 Types of Dance Classes for Your Child

1. Ballet

The fundamentals of ballet set the foundation for all other types of dance, making it a wonderful style to start with. This graceful and elegant art form requires discipline, technical skill, and physical strength.

Dance Classes

Ballet teaches young dancers how to connect to their bodies through controlled movement and musical cues. Ballet is a fantastic option for any child who wants to improve their flexibility and enjoys activities that require focus.

2. Jazz

Uptempo music and dynamic choreography make jazz a playful and fun style of dance. Similar to ballet, jazz also requires technical skill and focus to perfect the high-endurance movements. The music can range anywhere from the classics to more modern hits. If your child is a high-energy music lover who can't help but move to the beat, jazz may be the perfect style for them.

3. Tap

Tap dance is all about making noise, albeit perfectly timed and synchronized. It is set apart from other styles by its shoes, which have metal plates affixed to them, creating a percussive sound with every step. All of the expression in tap dance comes from the feet, meaning tremendous amounts of control are required for this style of dance. If your child is highly expressive, the technical movements of tap might be the best fit.

4. Hip Hop

Hip-hop dance was born from breakdancing, which was the street-style dance associated with hip-hop music in the 70s and 80s. This fast-paced, high-energy, contemporary art form incorporates modern music with energetic movements. Children with natural athleticism that enjoy modern self-expression are wonderful candidates for hip-hop dance classes.
