Whether you’ve always been passionate about the laid-back view from the seat of an e-bike or are searching for new ways to glimpse Appalachia’s hidden beauty, Georgia’s bike trails have you covered. Vacationers staying near Blue Ridge gush over the region’s thrilling paths through mountain meadows, across streams, and under old-growth canopies. If you’re planning a trip to the area, be sure to check out these bike trails.

What Are Some Must-See Appalachian Bike Trails in Georgia?

1. South Fork Trail

This trail is located within the Cohutta Wilderness area and offers a mixture of forest scenery and sweeping views. Three miles of straightforward single-track terrain leads riders down to a gorgeous waterfall. The return trip is all uphill, so less experienced bikers will especially love having the supporting energy of an e-bike for the trek.

2. Lake Blue Ridge Recreation Area

Located on the shores of the picturesque Lake Blue Ridge, this well-maintained area offers a biking loop with plenty of beach access. The paved surface will lead you most of the way around the lake. Great for family outings, a day bike trip can be combined with the area’s ample fishing and boating opportunities.

3. Bear Creek Trail

From Blue Ridge, a 20-minute drive south to Ellijay offers the chance to jump this loop trail that’s connected to the vast Pinhoti Trail system. While the main trail is over 300 miles long, the medium-difficulty loop of Bear Creek Trail will bring visitors back to the trailhead in a mere six miles.

The star of this old-growth forest track is the Gennett Poplar, which can be spotted just one mile in. Dress for creek crossings and enjoy the rushing downhill stretches.

4. Long Branch Loop

e-bike

Considered the easiest trail in the popular Aska system, this two-mile loop is set within the dense forest. Due to the rich foliage, riders shouldn’t expect far-off views, but the fall colors are magnificent at the right time of year. The wideness of the trail makes it ideal for larger groups or families keeping track of smaller children.

5. Stanley Gap Loop

A more challenging option within the Aska trail system, this loop can tire even the most avid biker. Covering nearly 15 miles, it alternates between rocky downhills and challenging climbs. For those worried about their lung capacity, it offers frequent plateaus where riders can stop for a rest.

Those looking for even more adventure can turn off onto connecting paths such as the Flat Creek Loop or the Green Mountain Trail. If you’re chasing a breathtaking view, be sure to take the turnout to the peak of Rocky Mountain.
