How Video can Help your Business
There are many reasons why video is important to your corporate website, but probably not many more important than how we connect as humans. And after all, every one of your potential customers are human!
Much of the English language is communicated via voice inflection. The written word is great, but misses that mark because we can't hear it. For example, if you get a text that says 'what were you thinking?' That could mean 'oh what were you thinking about when you said that' or it could mean 'what a dummy what were you thinking by saying that!?' Both would have been conveyed with voice inflection.
Video has the ability to communicate to all learning styles at the same time. So, whether you are a kinetic learner, auditory learner or visual learner, it is all covered in video. All at one time, you have reached the largest possible audience. Some people love to read a manual (I dont get it either! lol) but some like me would rather someone show us how to do it. Video is the best way to show someone how to do something without being there. In addition, if you find yourself saying the same thing over and over, video is a way to say it great one time and share it instead of saying it again!
Most of our communication as humans is nonverbal. We look at body language, if someone looks us in the eye or not, or if they appear nervous about what they are saying. These things are not communicated in print. In fact, the person who is represented in the text may not have been the one to actually write it, we can't see them writing it. But we can see them say it. When I read something and a speaker is quoted as saying something, how do I know that their voice inflection meant what the actual words seem to say? How do I know if those words were taken out of context or not? If I hear them say it, all those questions are resolved. I may not know all of what they meant, but I will have a better understanding by hearing and seeing them say it.
So, if you have a product you want people to understand better, or see from a different perspective, video is a helpful tool. I had a client once who had a very expensive piece of equipment that was used all over the country. Many times he flew across the country to show someone how to fix something that took 5 minutes to show someone how to do. We did a series of videos on the ones he most dealt with and saved him tons of money. Another use of video is a company we worked with wanted to record how to operate large equipment so that new hires can be brought up to date on their equipment. Many different ways that video can help your business.
