Laura Govan has proven herself to be a successful athlete, entrepreneur, women’s clothing designer, and mother, but this fashion icon has faced more than her share of adversity.

A native of Oakland, California, Laura was just seven years old when she was struck by a drunk driver. The car accident resulted in Laura entering into a three-month long coma. Although doctors began instructing her family to say their goodbyes and make peace with the situation, Laura’s mother refused to let her daughter go. Several days after the decision was made to not pull the plug on young Laura’s life, she miraculously woke up.

After several months of grueling physical therapy and having to relearn even the most basic physical actions, like walking, Laura made a complete recovery. After regaining her physical strength, she plunged herself into the world of athletics. Laura began playing football, baseball, and tennis and eventually found her perfect sport basketball.

As a student, Laura averaged 30 points per game and was offered a full scholarship to play for New Mexico State University. It was at NMSU that she earned a bachelor’s in international business with a minor in marketing and economy and followed it up by earning her master’s in sports psychology.

Due to her triumphs as a leader and athlete, Laura was eventually offered a head coaching position at Santa Clara University’s women basketball program, but she declined. Laura instead chose to focus on creating women’s clothing and becoming a mother. She now has four children with NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas.

Today, Laura Govan is a successful entrepreneur and has starred on reality television programs such as VH1’s Basketball Wives: LA.  She runs her own fashion boutique in Beverly Hills, CA. The online jewelry store inspires other women to be their most confident selves in her line of edgy, beautiful clothing and accessories.
