Swimming pool water loss is primarily caused by evaporation and cracks, and you may not even be aware of them. If you don't mitigate these issues, you'll have to add more water, which will increase your monthly bills. Here are a few prevention tips and solutions, including pool repairs.

How to Stop Pool Water Loss

1. Check the Liner

If the pool liner cracks even slightly, water will leak into the surrounding soil. Apart from water waste, oversaturated soil can shift, causing instability below the pool deck. As a result, more cracks appear. Check for cracks when you're in the pool. A pool repair contractor will fill these to restore the lining.

2. Reduce Water Temperature

It is harder for cold water to turn into vapor and evaporate, so consider adding a pool heat pump. Many of these features have a built-in cooling system and prevent evaporation during hot weather. Consult a pool repair contractor about preferred models and have them install it for maximum efficiency. To reduce sun exposure, consider a pool cover.

3. Plant Windbreaks

Wind accelerates evaporation by carrying away moist air, so add a windbreak to reduce evaporation. The pool deck can be decorated with raised concrete planters. Once you have planted trees and landscaped them, you can create a windbreak. Naupaka shrubs, silver buttonwood, and wax leaf ficus are some local varieties that reduce the speed and strength of the wind. Any pool deck will look wonderful with them.
