Whether it’s your first time skydiving or you’re practically a pro, the jump is an exhilarating experience. Still, it’s unwise to dive in without preparing first. There are plenty of risks involved, but if you follow this skydive safety guide from Pacific Skydiving Center of Waialua, HI, your free fall should be a breeze.

Your Skydive Safety Checklist

1. Talk to Your Doctor

Before you get ready to skydive, you need to find out if you’re healthy enough to jump. Ask your doctor if your body can handle the experience. Keep in mind that conditions such as heart disease and asthma restrict potential skydivers. Additionally, there is a 240-pound weight limit due to safety concerns with parachutes, so ask your doctor about weight loss methods if you’re over the limit.

2. Fuel Up

Before heading to your skydiving session, eat enough to feel full, but not so much that you might get sick. It’s important not to get lightheaded due to hunger, especially with the possibility of passing out in midair. Eat a light meal that’s high in nutrition and low on grease.

3. Dress the Part

If you’re stumped on what to wear when skydiving, remember to dress comfortably. Wear long, flexible pants or shorts, such as a pair you could work out in. You should also have tightly laced sneakers that won’t fly off on the fall, and a snug T-shirt. If it’s a bit colder out, bring a light jacket or hoodie.

4. Relax Your Body & Mind

5. Prep With Your Instructor

A skydiving instructor will be with you on a tandem jump to pull the parachute cord if you get nervous. Listen carefully to any advice they give you, because your safety is their top priority. Before you start, establish a few key signals, as verbal communication won’t be easy with the wind blowing in your ears.

When it comes to skydive safety measures, Pacific Skydiving Center takes every step to ensure your jump is as risk-free as it is fun. Their well-trained and fully licensed USPA instructors know what a life-changing experience skydiving can be, and they want you to feel comfortable throughout. If you’re still feeling anxious, try their Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) Program for new skydivers to learn your way around a parachute.
