Reading is an age-old pastime that brings both joy and relaxation. However, if you're a busy mom, it can be difficult to find the time to settle in with a good used book. With all that you have on your plate, finding some valuable time for yourself may even seem impossible. Luckily, there are several ways that you can make reading a part of your everyday routine.

How Busy Moms Can Find Time to Read

1. Read in the Car

While you can’t read while you’re busily negotiating traffic or dealing with the kids while finding a parking space, you can certainly bring a used book when you’re waiting for the kids after school. Many parents have a habit of getting in line early enough where they have to wait, and you can make the most of that time by reading a book. The time will pass quickly, and you’ll find yourself lost in the words, thanks to the blissful silence around you.

2. Schedule Family Reading Time

While you can’t necessarily read a book for adults to your children, you can certainly turn their reading time into yours, too. This works best with slightly older children who enjoy flipping through books on their own and have learned a few words. They may enjoy the independence of choosing something from their own bookshelf and reading it to themselves. You can settle in next to them, whether you’re in their bed or on the couch, and curl up with your own choice. Reading as a family has the potential to continue, even as they grow older.

3. Prioritize Your Free Time

While it may feel like you don’t have a lot of free time, think about those little moments you steal when you’re scrolling through social media or reading an article online. If you’re in the middle of a great story, consider reading it instead of spending your free time on your smartphone or tablet. Even if it’s just a page or two, you can put the devices away and spend more time around your book.
